From KUL to CMB to LHR

The morning before my parents sent me off to the KLIA, my mother made me cut my hair because she said she can't stand any longer looking at my bad hairstyle. Even the hairdresser said my hairstyle was NOT that chantek. Sentap tau!!! Hehehe...

Presenting... the new ME!

This is my inflight lunch, it's called prawn devilled noddles. Hmmm...

The unimpressive inflight entertainment. There was no way to restart the show at any point of time. You have to follow the time schedule as stated on the booklet!

The flight took about 3 hours to reach the Bandaranaike International Airport, and this airport is about an hour drive from Colombo. Can you see the military post in the picture below? Military posts are everywhere. I feel very unsafe throughout my 16 hours in this country.

I've had no difficulty to pass through the immigration counter, however, Amira had to go through such as hassle and harassment because according to the rude immigration lady, they simply don't issue on the spot visa to visitors from Egypt (I'm not sure about other countries because Amira is from Egypt). We waited for her about an hour before taking a bus to our transit accommodation arranged by SriLankan Airlines i.e. Browns Beach Hotel.

According to the facial reactions from a couple of Sri Lankans that we met on our way to Negombo, which was about 30 minutes drive from the airport, we got an impression that it's a very good hotel. One guy even said it's a 4-star hotel.

Not bad I guess, and it has a lovely beach too!

While my classmates decided to go to Colombo, I opted to stay and have dinner in the hotel. After the dinner buffet, I walked along the Lewis Place road to get a feel of Negombo life.

The next morning, I woke up at about 2.30 am and got ready to go to the airport. While in the airport, my friends and I tried our very best to finish up our Rupees. I did check with one of the money changer staff, how much will I get if I would like to change 900 rupees into pound sterling

"3 pound sterling or 4 euro."

Hmmm... I guess I made a huge forex losses! I said thank you to her and made my way to the nearest souvenier shop. I bought some fridge magnets, spent a few hundreds on Sri Lankan tea and donate the balance to Susan so that she has the exact rupees to purchase a carved wooden elephant.

There were so many low skilled workers waiting for their flights to Dubai or Mumbai and I spotted a group of a few hundreds of Indonesian ladies, also waiting for their flight. While the immigration and custom were not that strict on checking our liquid stuff as compared to their counterparts in the UK and other European countries, Amira and I were questioned for about 5 minutes about our stay in Sri Lanka as well as our purposes in the UK. Our passports were passed from one officer to another to be inspected with suspicious facial expression, as if we're terrorists!

"What's your postal code in the UK?"
"What course are you doing there?"
"What were you doing in Tokyo in 2005 and in Frankfurt last year?"

It really spoilt my mood and I don't think I want to come again to this country in the near future.

We arrived in London at about 1pm. It feels so good to be home...
